Eric Vaz is a Canadian place-based writer and Full Professor of Geographical Analysis living in Toronto. Through his research, he has spent years studying how landscapes shape human experience—a fascination that naturally infuses his fiction. His short stories delve into the intersections of personal identity, cultural history, and our environments. Writing, for Eric, is like a shadow that grows stronger under moonlight and sunshine, a netherworld from his work as a professor and award-winning scientist.
Eric’s fiction blends elements of historical fiction, subtle surrealism, and place-based memory, often revolving around themes of loss, renewal, and the unexpected.
I'm working on a short fiction collection that explores how Canadian landscapes shape our lives. The stories blend elements of history, geography, and subtle surrealism. Each delves into themes of identity, renewal, and the unexpected—often inspired by my background.
In addition to these short stories, I have two novel manuscripts in the works. The first novel (Professors) focuses on nurturing change and the posits of life's unfolding. The second blends historical research with uncanny twists, exploring how people navigate physical and psychological terrains.
Stay tuned for further updates, as I plan to share progress and excerpts as these projects develop.
